Motions of Movement
Movement and freestyle disco dancing. This project was performed in collaboration with Gemini Dance School and a young dancer. I was able to closely work with my clients and design/create garments for Skegness Dance Championships.
A movement is a physical form which can be developed in many ways, freestyle dancing has encouraged bizarre movements for years. It is also full of glitz and glamour!
by using my concept of physical movement I was able to build up motions that were created, and linked this into the costumes designs. I did this by exploring with paint, rhinestones and fringing.
During this project i was able to make a deeper personal connection and bring history back and merge some older styles in with modern day dance trends.
The rape of Lucrece
Throughout 'The rape of Lucrese' they metaphorically discuss flowers and nature, with this the two main characters are described using different types of flowers and weeds. In this project I explore the different meanings behind flowers and how they relate to each character throughout the poem. This helps demonstrate Shakespeare link with nature and real life.
This project really allowed me to enjoy the poetry and pick it apart in my own way. The garment I designed and made demonstrates that she is a beautiful flower and that his weeds are slowly wrapping themselves around her and slowly destroying her till she can no longer stand to live.
"unwholesome weeds", "precious flowers"
